Für das Buchprojekt „Kleine Wildnis“ besuchte Gabriele Kuhlewind Orte im städtischen Raum, an denen die Vegetation weitgehend sich selbst überlassen bleibt. Ihre Bilder zeigen Pflanzen, die für
gewöhnlich eher wenig Beachtung finden, ein paar Tiere, Steine. Technisch überließ sie die Bildentstehung teilweise dem (gesteuerten) Zufall, um auf diese Weise unscharfe Räume für Imagination zu
schaffen. Die kleine Wildnis versteht sie dabei als Ort, an dem sich freie, natürliche Entfaltung beobachten lässt, die im Gegensatz steht zum ordnenden Prinzip der Stadt.
Gabriele Kuhlewind (geb. 1961) lebt in Berlin. Ausbildung seit Mitte der 90er Jahre u.a. bei Sibylle Hoffmann und Thomas Michalak, Teilnahme an zahlreichen Ausstellungen im In- und Ausland. Von
einem anfänglich stark dokumentarisch geprägten Ansatz hat sich ihre Arbeit im Laufe der Jahre hin zu einer subjektiv beobachtenden Sichtweise entwickelt. Ihre Bilder zeigen persönliche Perspektiven,
die sie zumeist im eigenen Lebensumfeld fotografiert. Parallel entstehen immer wieder experimentelle Arbeiten zum Thema Konstruktion von Erinnerung, für die sie gefundene Fotografien verwendet.

For the book project "Little Wilderness" Gabriele Kuhlewind visited places in urban areas where the vegetation is largely left to its own devices. Her pictures show plants that usually get little attention, a few animals, stones. Technically, she left the creation of the picture partly to (controlled) chance in order to create blurred spaces for imagination. She sees the small wilderness as a place where free, natural development can be observed, which is in contrast to the ordering principle of the city.
Gabriele Kuhlewind (born 1961) lives in Berlin. Education since the mid-90s with Sibylle Hoffmann and Thomas Michalak, participation in numerous exhibitions at home and abroad. From an initially strongly documentary approach, her work has developed over the years to a subjectively observing perspective. Her pictures show personal perspectives, which she mostly photographs in her own living environment. At the same time, there are always experimental works on the construction of memories, for which she uses found photographs.
